Material conversion rules in Dental System
When importing orders from external systems, the software automatically converts incoming order materials and configurations to match the materials and settings defined in the Dental System. This process is called Automatic Material Conversion.
Depending on the order content and system configuration, the import process can result in:
- Automatic use of default system materials;
- Application of saved conversion rules;
- Manual definition of order details by the user.
NOTE! If you want to import orders without applying material mapping, follow the steps below to enable the needed option:
Dental System Control Panel → System Settings → Dental System behavior → Design center
As the result, only materials from the original order will be used during design.

This article explains how automatic material conversion works, the possible scenarios you may encounter, and how conversion rules are created, stored, and applied.
Possible import scenarios
During order import, one of the following scenarios will occur:
1. Default system materials
This scenario occurs when the imported order contains unknown materials, manufacturers, or configurations, or when a combination of known and unknown elements makes the order configuration invalid (for example, a pontic that is not connected to a bridge).
In this case, the system automatically applies valid default system materials where possible. The Order Form is displayed with the known and valid configuration selected by default. A notification indicating that the default conversion was used is shown.
You can review the converted order, make changes if necessary, and confirm the import by clicking OK.

2. Saved conversion rules
This scenario occurs when a previously saved conversion rule matches the materials or configuration in the imported order. The system automatically maps the original materials to the converted materials according to the saved rule.
Depending on the conversion rule mode, the Order Form may be displayed with the conversion applied by default, or the order may be imported automatically without showing the Order Form or the Automatic conversion dialog.

Save - saves the conversion rule to be reused the next time this exact material is mapped. The conversion rules are saved to Dental System Control Panel -> Dental manager -> Order Import and can be edited from there.
Don't save - does not save the conversion rule.
Right-click on the conversion rule to change its mode:
1. Show order form (use as default) - during import, the Order Form is shown with the conversion rule applied by default.
2. Don't show order form (autoreplace) - import is performed automatically without the Order Form or Automatic conversion dialog being shown.
3. Ignore (don't use) - the rule is disabled, but saved in the Control Panel.
Don't show again (for identical conversion) checkbox - when selected, applies the saved conversion rule for the next identical case and does not show the Automatic conversion dialog.
Next time, if the conversion rule is remembered and the original order contains an identical unknown or invalid configuration, the program will automatically apply this rule:

3. Manual order definition
This scenario occurs when the system cannot apply default system materials and no saved conversion rules exist for the imported order.
In this case, the Order Form is displayed without any restorations or materials selected. You must manually define all required order details, including restorations and materials, before the order can be imported.
Once the order details are completed and confirmed, the import process continues normally.
Receiving orders
When receiving incoming cases, conversion rules ensure that materials from external systems are correctly mapped to materials supported by the Dental System. If the system does not find an existing material mapping for a TRIOS order you are attempting to accept, the Default conversion used Order Form is displayed.

In this case, the order requires manual review and correction before it can be accepted. Creating and saving conversion rules helps minimize manual intervention for future orders with the same material configuration and ensures a smoother and more consistent order acceptance process.
